Information: Jesper Hendze (b. 1955) studied percussion and composition at the Carl Nielsen Academy in Odense, State University of New York at Buffalo and the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus. Primary teachers of composition has been David Felder, Per Nørgård and Karl Aage Rasmussen. In 1991 Jesper Hendze received a three-year grant from The Danish Arts Foundation. Presently he is in charge of the Danish Composers Society's studio for computerized music notation. The ouevre of Jesper Hendze covers a wide range of genres. A few works worth mentioning are: Escalations for solo percussion (1986), Marduk for marimba, 3 flutes, 3 bassoons, 3 trombones, 2 percussionists and piano (1989), The Beauty of the Beast for saxophone quartet (1990) (recorded on CD by New Danish Saxophone Quartet), Courtly Manners for flute, guitar and cello (1992) (recorded on CD by Duo Most/Kunz), Shine for (almost) big-band (1992), Sept Colonnes for trombone quartet (1993), Trio (in memoriam Frank Zappa) for clarinet, bassoon and piano (1995), Movement - sinfonietta (1996), Inaudible Choirs for saxophone and percussion (1998), Laika in Orbit for improvising percussionist and four instrumental groups (1998), Smoke by Day, Glow by Night for trombone with digital effects processor and virtual drummer (2001) and Sundial for string orchestra (2002) which was 1st Prize winner of Turku Conservatory's 40th Anniversary Nordic Composition Contest.
