Information: Born: August 13, 1933 - Viersen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany The German composer and music pedagogue, Herbert Callhoff, studied church music at the Folkwanghochschule in Essen (1953; organ with Ernst Kaller) and at the Hochschule für Musik Köln (1956; organ and composition with Siegfried Reda and Gisbert Schneider). In 1961 he passed the state exams of church music in Cologne. In 1967 he studied composition at the Robert-Schumann-Konservatorium Düsseldorf with Jürg Baur. In 1961 Herbert Callhoff became church musician (organist and choirmaster) at St. Elisabeth in Düsseldorf and seved in this post for 10 years. The same year he also began to work as music teacher at the Clara-Schumann-Musikschule Düsseldorf. Since 1969 he teaches music theory, organ and composition at the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule in Düsseldorf. In 1975 he was appointed professor of music theory and organ. From 1995 to 1998 he served as rector of the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule Düsseldorf. Among his pupils: Otto Maria Krämer His compositional work includes choral music, orchestral music, chamber music and organ works. In 1984 he was awarded the Composition Prize of the City of Neuss.
