Karlsons studied at the Riga high School of Choreography. From 1963 to 1967 he continued his studies at the theory Division of the Emils Darzins Music College. Afterwards he graduated at the Riga Conservatory in 1972.
From 1968-1975 he worked at the Latvian Radio and Television. From 1975 until 1982 he worked at the Rainis Dailes Theatre.
As of 1974 he had been teaching at the Latvian State Conservatory and became its rector. From 2000 until 2004 he was head of the composition department of the Academy of music. |
