Information: Talmelli, Andrea (b. July 7, 1950, Modena). Italian composer of mostly orchestral, chamber, choral, vocal, and piano works that have been performed all across Europe and the world very successfully. Mr. Talmelli graduated with degrees in Piano (1972, with Lino Rastelli) and Composition (1977, with Azio Corghi) from the Arrigo Boito Conservatory of Parma. He also earned a degree in Jurisprudence from the University of Parma (1976). He earned fellowships in Lanciano (1974) and Groznjan (Croatia, 1977) and was a student of P. Guarino in conducting (1977-79). He was a teacher of composition at the Arrigo Boito Conservatory of Parma from 1975-84, and since 1982, he has been active in the first experimentation in Italy of having an attached high school alongside the institute. He has been manager of the A. Tonelli Musical Institute of Carpi since 1986, and from 1990, manager of the Achille Peri Musical Institute of Reggio nell'Emilia. His works have been played many times in Italy. Outside Italy, his works have been performed in Argentina, Austria (Festival Aspekte, Salzburg), Canada, Croatia (Groznjan, 1977), France, Germany, Hungary, India, Japan, Lebanon, Malta, and Mexico. His works have also been heard in The Netherlands (Gaudeamus), Norway, Romania, Russia, Switzerland (Music in the Mendrisiotto), Turkey, the UK (Sotheby's, 1993), the USA, and Yugoslavia (International Festival, Belgrade, 1995, 1997). He has won or received special mentions from the International Competition of the Filarmonica Umbra of Terni (1978, 1988), the Guido d'Arezzo Competition of Polyphonic Composition (1981), the Muccetti Prize of Parma (1981), and the first edition of Venezia Opera Prima promoted by La Fenice (1981).
