Information: Basha, Mohamed Saad (b. September 22, 1972, Cairo). Egyptian composer of mostly chamber and vocal works that have been performed in Africa, Europe and the Middle East; he is also active as a percussionist. Mr. Basha studied composition with Rageh Daoud and conducting with Ahmed El-Saedi at the Conservatory of Music in Cairo, where he earned his BMus in both subjects in 1997, higher diploma in composition in 2000 and MMus in composition in 2004. He also had private drumkit studies with Ashraf Fouad, Labib Henin and Amr Khairy in Cairo from 1990-93, earned two diplomas in studio operation at Helwan University in Cairo in 1995 and twice attended the International Workshop for Orchestral Conducting in Cairo in 2001-02. Among his many honors are First Prize in a children's chorus competition in Cairo (1994, for the children's song Sons of the Nile [withdrawn]) and First Prize in a youth orchestra competition in Cairo (2002, for Ay'oub). His music was featured at the Orient und Okzident festival in Ulm in 2003. As a percussionist, he was a member of the Cairo Opera Orchestra from 1998-2002 and played with Lukas Ligeti in Cairo in 2000 and the quartet Saxofourte in Egypt and Germany in 2004.
