Information: CONSTANT, Franz (Montignies-le-Tilleul (Hainaut), 17th November 1910 - Le Tignet (France), 13th March 1996) began his musical studies at the Academy of Music in Charleroi and continued at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. In Paris he received advice from Henri Tomasi. Until his retirement in 1976, he was a successful teacher (piano) at the academies of Schaerbeek and Uccle, director of the Academy of Music of Auderghem and since 1947 professor at the Royal Conservatory of Music, Brussels. He is also an active member of several associations. He started his career as a pianist. As such he performed innumerable works of Belgian contemporary composers. He gave recitals and concerts first as a soloist, later he formed a piano-duo with Jane Pallemaerts. Slowly, however, his career as a pianist had to give way to composition, a field in which he got interested late. As a composer he is open for all the esthetic tendencies which influenced the musical language of our time. His contrapuntal style shows great interest for form, melody and colour.
