Jonathan Koch's interest in music was sparked when his older brother showed him how to use Napster, back when it was still free. He quickly amassed a library of the weirdest-sounding music he could find, and started trying to write some himself. Today, he still tries to write music, and it's still sometimes pretty weird. His music tends to juxtapose energy with stasis, and attempts to evoke an ecstatic atmosphere. Jonathan spent two years studying composition at NYU with Youngmi Ha and Justin Dello Joio before coming to the Manhattan School of Music, where he has studied with Julia Wolfe and Richard Danielpour. Jonathan was born in Silver Spring, Maryland.
