Information: Born Budapest. Studied music at the National Conservatory with László Lajtha, and later at the Academy of Music, Budapest, under Albert Siklós. Obtaining scholarship he made study-tours to Italy and to Austria, among others he attended Frank Schalk’s course for conductors in Salzburg. Since 1929 he has been a member of the Budapest Opera House, where he became conductor in 1932. In 1953 he was awarded the “Merited Artist of the Hungarian People’s Republic” title and the Kossuth Prize. He composed stage works, works for chorus and orchestra, choral works, orchestral music, chamber music, instrumental music and songs.
