Information: Chris began playing at the age of four under the tutelage of Maureen Smith ARCM, winning a music scholarship to attend Norwich School. After being awarded a bursary by the Royal Academy of Music at the age of fourteen, and having graduated with a Masters degree in British Music (with distinction) from Bristol University, he returned in 2008 to complete his post-graduate education at the Academy, where he has won several prizes and awards. Chris has played for audiences around the world, performing in Japan, Singapore, Europe, New York and London, working regularly as a soloist with orchestras, chamber groups and a wide range of musicians. Offered a fellowship by the Academy, for the past year he has been working as répétiteur for the Royal Academy Opera, working as principal rep for Sir Charles Mackerras’s production of Semele, and with Song Circle in the Wigmore Hall, and Chelsea and Oxford Lieder Festivals. As Musical Director of the Orchestra of the City, Chris is very active as a conductor. He has been invited to direct a range of ensembles. He is also an accomplished violinist, leading productions of contemporary opera at the Arcola Theatre in London, and ‘Riverside Opera’ performances and has played with a number of orchestras, including the European Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. He has recently completed his postgraduate degree at the Royal Academy, supported by an Elton John Scholarship and is looking forward to another year with Royal Academy Opera.
