Information: George Barcos was born in Bogota, Columbia. He began his musical education at the age of nine. In 1964 he travelled to California and on completing his high school education studied guitar, composition and orchestration. In 1974 George Barcos settled in Switzerland where he attended the Basel Academy of Music for an intensive course in composition and orchestration. Since 1977 he has taught guitar in the jazz department of the Conservatory of Popular Music (CPM) in Geneva where he regularly composes and makes arrangements for Professors of other departments. During his ten years of conducting the CPM Jazz-Band he has produced numerous arrangements and led the band to a very high standard in interpretation. Over the past twenty years George Barcos has performed with great success on many stages in Switzerland and abroad, mainly in the field of his speciality: Latin jazz. Since living in Europe he has taken every opportunity to diversify in various musical styles, from chamber music to jazz, from theatre music to music for film and television. Today he predominantly writes music in his own particular style, which reflects an emotional panorama of the three cultures united within him: South America, America and Europe.
