Information: Born on March 20th, 1973 in Latvia, Kronlaks began his studies at the Mediņš College of Music (in the music theory class, and the composition class of Tamara Kalna, 1988-1992). He then studied composition at the Latvian Academy of Music (with Äcederts Ramans (1992-1996) and then in the masterclass of Juris Karlsons (1996-1998) graduating with a Masters degree. He has also completed studies in the composition and computer music class at IRCAM in Paris (with Phillipe Hurel, Marco Stroppa, Brian Ferneyhough and others, 19981999). Kronlaks has taken part in young composers seminars at Ivanov (Russia, 1996-1997); with the support of the TEMPUS program he spent three months at the Enschede Conservatory in the Netherlands (with David Rowland, 1997); studied in Mexico at the Franco Donatoni Masterclass (1998) and, under the Royaumont Foundation Program Voix Nouvelles studied at the Abbey of Royaumont (France) with Brian Ferneyhough, Jose Evangelista, and Jean-Luc Herva (2000). Since 2000, he is working at the Latvian Academy of Music Composition Department as teacher of contemporary music techniques and electro-acoustics.
