Schoemaker was an autodidact. Later on he had private studies harmony
with Eugène Ysaÿe, contrapunt with Michel Brusselmans, fuga with Martin Lunssens and composition with Paul Gilson. He belonged as a pupil of Paul Gilson to the componisersgroup De Synthetisten. His titles are predominant Flemish and his style romantic, clearly along the Gilson-rules..
