Information: Schoemaker was an autodidact. Later on he had private studies harmony with Eugène Ysaÿe, contrapunt with Michel Brusselmans, fuga with Martin Lunssens and composition with Paul Gilson. He belonged as a pupil of Paul Gilson to the componisersgroup De Synthetisten. His titles are predominant Flemish and his style romantic, clearly along the Gilson-rules.. His symphonic poem Vuurwerk (1924) was a succes Also his opera Swane had a rich orkestration and evocative nature. As a conductor he stood from 1925 before the Dierentuinorkest of Flor Alpaerts and conducted his own works.
